John

This is the fourth quarter of a plan to read the entire New Testament in one year. One Gospel is included in each quarter. Weekends can be used to reflect on or memorize a key verse. Notes are also included to assist with understanding.

John is all about Jesus! This 16-day plan will walk you through the book of John by reading only 1-2 chapters a day. Each day is accompanied by a short devotional and video that explains what’s happening and shows you how each part of the story points to Jesus and his Gospel.

The Life of Jesus, Part 7 (7/10)

When Jesus healed a blind man in John 9, He did more than cure a physical ailment. He opened a heart’s eyes to faith. Yet as the Pharisees interrogated the man, they showed what hearts look like when they are still blinded by proud unbelief. The ministry of Jesus is to transform hearts, turning them to God, as He did for the man born blind.

One of the most profound names of God is, “I Am.” God revealed this name to Moses at the burning bush. But who is this mysterious and all-powerful “I am?” Jesus revealed his divine nature and heart toward us through seven “I am” statements in the book of John. A person’s name is his or her first identifier. Have you noticed that a person, more often than not, takes on the characteristics of their name? We see this a lot in the Bible – but have you looked at your own name and its meaning? Plan 10 is the significance of Jesus calling Himself “I AM”. Do we take comfort in knowing Jesus is WHO He says He is?

This Advent, spend time in the opening verses of John’s Gospel reflecting on what these verses reveal to us about who Jesus is. 

Who Is Jesus?

The WORD on the cross... The WORD in the grave... The WORD resurrected... Day 1 examines Jesus' final words on the cross. Day 2 contemplates the silence of Saturday—the "between" day when Jesus lay in the tomb. Day 3 celebrates how Jesus, as the Word, offers the final, triumphant word over sin and death.
