The Problem—Sin and Death
Big Idea: Sin is rebellion against a holy God, and it brings separation and death.
Teaching Point
Before the Bible explains salvation, it explains the problem. Sin is not merely making mistakes or failing to meet expectations. It is choosing our own way rather than God’s. It is rebellion against God’s authority, and it separates us from Him because God is holy.
The result of sin is death. This includes physical death, but more importantly, spiritual separation from God, our Creator. This separation affects every part of life: our thinking, relationships, desires, and future. Until we grasp the seriousness of sin, we will not fully understand why salvation is necessary.
God is honest about the problem because He desires to rescue us from it. The bad news comes first, so the good news can be clearly understood.
Application
Take time to honestly acknowledge that sin is more than bad behavior. It is separation from God and rebellion against Him. Thank Him for revealing the truth to you rather than leaving you unaware of your need.
Small Group Discussion
- Why is it important to understand what sin truly is before we talk about salvation?
- Where are you most tempted to treat sin lightly instead of seriously?
- What is one step you can take this week to confess and turn from known sin?
Closing Prayer
“Lord, help us see sin the way You see it, and help us run to Your mercy.”
Scripture
About this Plan

The Discipleship Journey is a practical Bible plan for new believers who want to follow Jesus with clarity and consistency. Each day includes Scripture, a short teaching, and one simple step to apply what you learned. You’ll build a strong foundation in the gospel, assurance, identity in Christ, the Holy Spirit, baptism, the local church, spiritual habits, overcoming sin, prayer, and living as a witness. This plan works well for personal devotion, small groups, or one-on-one discipleship. The goal is steady growth, one step at a time, together.
